Our Initiatives - Areas of Opportunity

Our mission is to provide leadership development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. We are part of JCI’s international network of over 100 participating countries, and we are here to support our community in Hawaii.

As a Jaycee, you have access to resources and programming that spans across JCI’s four areas of opportunity:
International Cooperation;
Individual Development;
Business & Entrepreneurship; and
Community Impact.

Whether you’re interested in improving your community through impactful projects, learning new skills, or connecting with international peers, being a part of HCJ means you’ll have support each step of the way. Much of HCJ’s work spans across multiple areas of opportunity, providing a variety of pathways for our members to become stronger leaders.

International Cooperation

Junior Chamber International (JCI) is a worldwide organization that connects young leaders who are passionate about making a difference. As part of this network, HCJ represents Hawaii at the State level and the United States at the National level and offers unique opportunities for our members to grow personally and professionally. By joining HCJ, you become part of a global network – gaining access to international resources, training, and experiences through programs and events. The relationship between HCJ, JCI USA, and JCI means you’re not just impacting your local community – you’re part of a movement that’s creating positive change around the world.

Some examples of HCJ’s International Cooperation initiatives include International Youth Art Exchange, Asia and the Pacific Conference, and World Congress.

Individual Development

Leadership development opportunities through HCJ allow you to build essential skills, expand your network, and boost your career. Our programs provide hands-on experience in leadership, project management, and public speaking – helping you grow both personally and professionally. By engaging with a supportive community of peers and mentors, you can accelerate your development and unlock new opportunities for success.

Some examples of HCJ’s Individual Development initiatives include the Jaycee Basics Training Series, financial scam awareness classes, and firearm safety training.

Business & Entrepreneurship

HCJ empowers young leaders to innovate, grow, and succeed in the dynamic world of business and entrepreneurship. We provide opportunities for members to develop critical skills, expand their professional networks, and gain exposure to global markets.

Some examples of HCJ’s Business & Entrepreneurship initiatives include the Young Professionals Sip & Social Collab, Discounts for HCJ members at member-owned local businesses, and inter-chapter relationship building at State Conventions.

Community Impact

HCJ members play a vital role in community development by creating community impact projects suited to the unique community of our islands. These projects give members the opportunity to lead while developing long-term, sustainable solutions to address community challenges. Through hands-on experience, you can learn project management, advocacy, and civic engagement skills that can be applied in both your personal and professional life.

Some examples of HCJ’s Community Impact initiatives include our signature projects: Chinatown Festival & Parade, the Healthy Baby Contest, and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
